Thread:Fluorescent green

1. Put the bend of the hook in the vise. Hold the thread in your left hand, bobbin in right and starting 1/4 of the way from the bend of the hook wrap the thread over top of the hook 5 times moving towards the eye then back over the thread towards the back of the hook. Continue wrapping until you get to the bend of the hook. It should look like this...
2. Take a piece of lead wire, the length is at your discretion, Hold one end of the wire in each hand and starting at the center of the hook wrap half the wire towards the eye of the hook and half the wire towards the bend. It should look like this...
3. Cut a small clump hair about 3/4 of the length of the hook from the black calf tail. Place the ends that you cut over top of the thread wraps 1/4 of the way up, from the bend in the hook. Wrap the ends down with 4 to 5 turns of thread and make sure the hair stays on top of the hook. Cut the ends of the hair that are sticking out from in front of your thread wraps at an angle sloping down. It should look like this...*Note: If the hair is not straight your fly will present better if the hair curls up.* It should look like this...
4. Take the free end of the silver diamond braid and place it on top of the last thread turns. Secure down with 4 or 5 turns of thread. It should look like this...
5. Now wrap your thread up the shank of the hook stopping 1/4 of an inch from the eye of the hook. You'll need that space later. Now wrap the silver diamond braid up the shank in the same manner as the thread keeping steady pressure on the diamond braid and secure it with 4 to 5 thread turns, 1/4 inch from the eye of the hook. It should look like this...
6. Wrap your thread back 1/4 inch towards the bend in the hook. Take the free end of the chenille and secure down with 4 or 5 turns of thread. Spin your thread back to the spot 1/4 inch from the eye. Spin the chenille up the hook making a small ball or egg shape and secure it down 1/4 inch from the eye of the hook. It should look like this...
7. Select a hackle and trim off the fuzzy stuff from the end of the feather. Now cut about 10 fibers off the bottom on each side of the feather. You now have a stumpy end which you attach to the side of the hook closest to you 1/4 inch from the eye of the hook. Secure it there with 4 to 5 thread wraps. It should look like this...
8. Trim the stump off the feather as close to the securing wraps as possible. Grab the tip of the feather with your hackle pliers and wrap the feather around the hook in the same direction as your thread. Wrap the feather around about 5 times, so it's nice and bushy then secure the end of the feather with 4 to 5 turns of thread. Trim off the tip of the feather as close to your securing wraps as possible. It should look like this...
9. Place the bead eyes on top of the hook and make figure 8 turns around the eyes and hook with your thread. Make sure your wraps are tight. Make enough turns so the eyes are on solid and whip finish...
